Gather the right packing materials
Plan and buy enough of the right packing materials:
- Large moving boxes - they need to be strong, clean, and dry
- Packing paper- buy soft, blank, acid-free, and ink-free one
- Packing tape
- Plastic bags
- Black marker
- Scissors
- Optional: vacuum storage bags
Attention: Don't make the mistake of using ordinary newspapers instead of packing paper. Newspaper ink can easily damage and permanently stain your delicate linens, and you don't want that.

Useful techniques
Ready for some packing magic? Here it comes:
- Line the bottom of each box with clean packing paper and fold packing paper over the top before closing your box. It will create a protective shield against insects and moisture. That's especially important because you won't use the items right away; they will sit there, packed, for a few days (or even weeks) before moving day. Then they'll sit in transport, and then again wait for unpacking, and maybe even spend some time in storage in between. Be mindful of that and ensure some extra time for good packing preparation to avoid possible problems later on.
- For extra protection from dirt and moisture, wrap your linens in plastic bags before packing them in boxes. After you’ve done all the previous steps, seal the box with packing tape and label it according to each bedroom.
- To optimize the space inside your boxes when you pack linens for moving, you'll need to frequently compress the items inside by pressing them down and squeezing out the excess air. Don’t just toss the linens into a box to save time, but carefully fold each item to be as flat as possible. By doing that, you'll make the most out of the space in each box, and you won't waste as many of them.
- It's important to leave enough room at the top of the box to create a tight seal with the tape in the end without items bunching out. If you stuff so many things that the box is "bursting at the seams," it actually can burst at the seams. For extra space-saving and shrinking, you can use vacuum-storage bags. They can make your linens flat and much easier to pack. They are really cheap, and they will save you a ton of space. Vacuum storage bags are especially useful for packing, moving, and storing bulky items such as pillows, comforters, duvets, and cushions. You can reuse them later for seasonal clothes etc.

How to pack towels
Pack towels using the same materials and techniques as for linens and bedding. Although there are many differences between linen towels and cotton towels, you should pack them the same way.
Creative tip: You can use your towels to pad boxes with fragile items (dishware, glassware, porcelain, etc.). Set aside some of them since they can serve as excellent padding for delicate stuff. Remember this fantastic cushioning tip for fragile objects when packing them. Towels will perfectly fit in empty spaces in boxes and prevent shifting and tumbling in transport.
First night in your new home and a box of essentials
When moving, it's imperative to keep the most important items with you. Remember to pack your essentials box, which should include all the things you'll need in the first few hours and days in your new place. It's the box that you'll open first, and it contains items that can help with small emergencies. It would be best if you definitely had easy and quick access to everything necessary first, after the moving: a prepared meal, some snacks, your medication, cleaning supplies, towels, personal hygiene, etc. Consider that box your "survival kit."
Remember to put aside some clean linens, pillows, and towels for the first night in your new home. Clearly label that box and keep it aside - it will make it easier to find. After a long day of moving, you'll be exhausted, and there is nothing that will make you happier than crawling into a cozy bed with fresh and clean linens.
