Under the Cover of Comfort

BUCK ELLISON’S new line of  linen towels manages to improve on the already perfect concept of sunbathing. Made in India, this chic summer accessory dries quickly, won’t stick to sand and can be thrown in the wash. It also doubles as a handsome sarong, tablecloth or bedspread, said Mr. Ellison, a photographer who, inspired by a 1930s image of Belgian soldiers bathing in the Meuse River, made one for a camping trip a couple of years ago. After receiving compliments from friends, he turned it into a business, introducing the first collection in May. Two weeks later, all nine styles, which include Southwestern stripes and a mattress ticking print, had sold out.

“They’re filling a niche,” he said. Albeit not until Aug. 1, when the next delivery arrives.

Deck towels, $50 to $100 at Partners & Spade, 40 Great Jones Street (between Lafayette Street and the Bowery); and decktowel.com.
